Disney fans, get ready for something special. Walt Disney World just revealed that six brand-new character meet-and-greet experiences are coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in late summer 2026—and this isn’t your typical photo-op setup.
According to WDW News Today, the new experiences will be part of a stunning area called “Off the Page!” inside The Magic of Disney Animation attraction. This is a collaboration between Walt Disney Animation Studios and Walt Disney Imagineering, and it promises to bring guests behind the scenes of the animation process in the most immersive way possible.
What Makes “Off the Page!” Different
Here’s where it gets interesting. Instead of standard character meet-and-greets where you stand in line and snap a quick photo, “Off the Page!” will feature characters representing six unique departments from the animation studio. Each space will be themed to a different part of the animation process, creating incredible photo opportunities that actually tell a story.
We know two of the characters already: Mulan will be posing with an oversized storyboard panel in the Story department, while Rapunzel will be surrounded by a setting inspired by the classic multiplane camera in the Layout department. The other four characters haven’t been revealed yet, but we’re expecting them to represent departments like Character Design, Lighting, Effects, and Animation.
Why This Matters for Hollywood Studios
This announcement is significant for several reasons. First, Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been in desperate need of more character experiences since Star Wars Launch Bay closed permanently as part of the Animation Courtyard transformation. Six new meet-and-greets in a single area? That’s a substantial addition to the park’s character roster.
Second, this concept brilliantly ties into the park’s core theme of celebrating the art of entertainment and filmmaking. By highlighting the actual departments and processes that bring animated films to life, Disney is giving guests an educational experience wrapped in magic—something that feels perfectly at home in a park originally designed to showcase how movies are made.
Part of a Bigger Transformation
“Off the Page!” is part of the larger reimagining of Animation Courtyard into the Walt Disney Studios Lot. The area is getting a complete overhaul, including the demolition of the park’s iconic archway. While that’s bittersweet for longtime fans, what’s replacing it sounds impressive.
The Magic of Disney Animation won’t open until late summer 2026—likely late June or July—which means the rest of the Walt Disney Studios Lot area will probably debut earlier, possibly around Memorial Day weekend 2026.
What We’re Hoping to See
Since Disney has only revealed two of the six characters so far, there’s plenty of room for speculation. Given the department theme, we could see characters like:
- Animators’ department: Perhaps Genie from Aladdin, given Eric Goldberg’s famous work on the character
- Effects department: Elsa from Frozen, showcasing the incredible ice and snow effects
- Character Design department: Maybe a classic character like Mickey or a more stylized character like Stitch
- Color/Lighting department: Someone from a visually stunning film like Moana or Encanto
The concept has so much potential, and we’re excited to see which other beloved characters make the cut.
The Bottom Line
Disney’s Hollywood Studios needed this. With the loss of Launch Bay and the ongoing Evolution of Muppet*Vision 3D area, the park has been in transition mode for a while. “Off the Page!” represents a creative, thoughtful addition that enhances the park’s identity while giving guests more opportunities to interact with their favorite characters.
We just wish we didn’t have to wait until late summer 2026 to experience it. But if the concept is executed as beautifully as it sounds, it’ll be worth the wait.
