If you’ve been mourning the upcoming loss of MuppetVision 3D at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we have some seriously good news: the Muppets aren’t leaving—they’re just moving to a much faster, louder, and arguably way more exciting home. Disney just announced that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is getting a complete Muppets makeover, and it’s debuting in summer 2026.
According to the Disney Parks Blog, the current Aerosmith-themed Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will operate until spring 2026, when it will close for transformation into “Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets.” The reimagined coaster will open that same summer, giving Muppets fans a high-speed, headbanging new way to experience Kermit, Miss Piggy, Animal, and the gang.
Why This Actually Makes Perfect Sense
At first glance, putting the Muppets on a rock ‘n’ roll coaster might sound random. But if you think about it for more than two seconds, it’s genius. The Muppets have always been about music, chaos, and barely-controlled mayhem—which is exactly what Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster delivers. Animal on drums? Miss Piggy belting out power ballads? Gonzo doing something completely unhinged? It practically writes itself.
Plus, this move solves a major problem. When Disney announced that MuppetVision 3D would close to make room for the new Monsters, Inc. land, fans were understandably upset. MuppetVision was one of the last projects Jim Henson personally worked on before his death, and losing it felt like losing a piece of Disney history. But by relocating the Muppets to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, Disney is giving them an even bigger spotlight—and on one of Hollywood Studios’ most popular attractions, no less.
What We Know (and Don’t Know) So Far
Disney hasn’t revealed much about what the Muppets version will actually look like. Will the coaster itself change, or just the theming and story? Will we still launch from 0 to 57 mph in 2.8 seconds, or will the ride system get tweaked? And most importantly: what songs will the Muppets be performing?
The original Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster features Aerosmith hits like “Sweet Emotion” and “Walk This Way,” but we’re guessing the Muppets will bring their own soundtrack. Maybe we’ll finally get a high-speed version of “Rainbow Connection”—or, more likely, a rock medley featuring Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. Either way, the music is going to be a huge part of the experience, and we can’t wait to see (and hear) what Disney comes up with.
One thing we do know: this transformation is happening fast. The current Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will close in spring 2026, and the Muppets version is slated to open by summer 2026. That’s a remarkably short turnaround, which suggests Disney might be keeping most of the ride infrastructure intact and focusing primarily on rethemed visuals, audio, and pre-show elements.
The Bigger Picture: What This Means for Hollywood Studios
This announcement is part of a massive wave of changes coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios over the next few years. We already knew that MuppetVision 3D would close to make way for the Monsters, Inc. land (which will include a suspended roller coaster and the first-ever Monsters, Inc. door coaster). And now, with the Muppets taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, Hollywood Studios is essentially getting two major attraction overhauls in quick succession.
For Muppets fans, this is the best possible outcome. Instead of losing their presence at the park entirely, the Muppets are graduating from a 3D theater show to a legitimate E-ticket thrill ride. That’s a major upgrade in terms of visibility and appeal, especially for younger guests who might not sit through a 17-minute movie but will absolutely line up for a roller coaster.
And for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster fans? Well, if you’re attached to the Aerosmith version, you’ve got until spring 2026 to ride it one last time. But honestly, we think the Muppets are going to bring a whole new level of energy (and humor) to this attraction. This could end up being one of Disney’s smartest rethemes in years.
When to Visit Before (and After) the Change
If you want to experience the original Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith before it closes, you’ll need to visit Hollywood Studios between now and spring 2026. Disney hasn’t announced an exact closing date yet, but “spring 2026” likely means sometime between March and May.
Once the Muppets version opens in summer 2026, expect massive crowds. This is going to be one of the most hyped new attractions at Disney World that year, and it’s debuting during peak summer travel season. If you’re planning a trip for summer or fall 2026, this should absolutely be on your must-do list.
We’re genuinely excited about this one. The Muppets deserve a permanent home at Hollywood Studios, and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is the perfect stage for their brand of controlled chaos. Now we just need Disney to confirm that Animal will be playing drums on the soundtrack, and we’ll be completely sold.
