Sprinkles Cupcakes Just Closed All Its Locations—And That Includes the Disney Springs Store That’s Been There Since 2016

If you were planning to grab a cupcake at Disney Springs this week, you’re out of luck. Sprinkles Cupcakes has permanently closed all of its locations nationwide, including the popular Disney Springs bakery that opened in 2016.

The closure happened on January 1, 2026, and guests visiting Disney Springs today found the storefront completely shuttered. According to WDW News Today, the windows and doors are now covered with black paper, with a sign outside reading “This location is closed today, we apologize for any inconvenience.”

What This Means for Disney Springs

The Sprinkles location was part of the massive Disney Springs reimagining project that transformed the former Downtown Disney into the sprawling shopping, dining, and entertainment district we know today. The bakery opened in 2016 alongside dozens of other new retail and restaurant concepts designed to compete with Universal CityWalk and other Central Florida destinations.

For nearly a decade, Sprinkles served as a go-to spot for guests looking for premium cupcakes in flavors like red velvet, dark chocolate, and their signature vanilla. The location also featured the brand’s famous “Cupcake ATM,” which allowed guests to purchase cupcakes 24/7 from an automated dispenser outside the store.

This closure represents another shift in Disney Springs’ retail landscape. Over the past few years, we’ve seen several original tenants from the 2016 reimagining close their doors, replaced by new concepts as Disney continuously evolves the district’s offerings.

Why the Sudden Shutdown?

While the WDW News Today report confirms the closure is permanent and affects all Sprinkles locations nationwide, the company hasn’t issued a public statement explaining the decision. The abrupt nature of the shutdown—with no advance warning to customers—suggests this may have been a corporate decision made quickly across all locations.

For Disney Springs specifically, this leaves a gap in the premium dessert category. The district still offers plenty of sweet treats at locations like Gideon’s Bakehouse, The Ganachery, and Vivoli il Gelato, but Sprinkles occupied a unique niche as an upscale cupcake destination with a national following.

We’ll be watching to see what replaces this space and whether Disney announces a new tenant in the coming months. Given the prime location and the success of other dessert-focused concepts at Disney Springs, it’s likely we’ll see another bakery or sweet shop move in eventually.
