Disney Cruise Line Returns to New York—Book Starting September 8

Disney Cruise Line is headed back to New York City, and if you want one of these sailings, the window opens fast. According to Disney’s official announcement on the Disney Parks Blog, the Disney Wish will arrive in New York in late September 2027 after the ship’s inaugural European season, offering seven special voyages ranging from four to seven nights. It’s the fleet’s first NYC-based season since 2023.

From New York, the itineraries lean into the Northeast: five sailings to Bermuda (three of them extended by an extra day), plus a return to New England and Canada for the first time in nearly four years. Disney also confirmed two 14-night Panama Canal repositioning cruises aboard the Disney Magic, with maiden calls at Fuerte Amador (Panama City) and Colón, Panama.

Disneyland’s Rivers of America Classics Start Going Dark This Month

If you’re planning a September Disneyland trip, check the refurbishment calendar before you go. Per Disneyland’s official closure schedule, a cluster of the park’s oldest attractions rotates offline this month—several of them opening-era rides that date back to 1955.

The Mark Twain Riverboat closes for refurbishment on September 8 and is slated to reopen September 12, after which the Sailing Ship Columbia takes its turn, closing September 21 and returning September 25 (the two vessels rotate their maintenance). The bigger disruption lands September 14, when Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island closes—shuttering the entire island and the short raft crossing over the Rivers of America—with no reopening date announced. The same day, the Mad Tea Party spinning teacups, a Disneyland opening-day fixture, also goes down for work.

We always tell first-time Disneyland guests that the Frontierland and Adventureland waterways are easy to take for granted until they’re roped off, and this month several of them will be at once. If riding the Mark Twain or exploring Tom Sawyer Island is on your must-do list, aim for the first week of September or plan around these gaps entirely.

Pixar Place Hotel Gets a Monsters, Inc. Halloween Makeover

The Disneyland Resort also pulled back the curtain on a Halloween transformation that was a surprisingly long time in the making. According to the Disney Parks Blog, the lobby of the Pixar Place Hotel has been reimagined with a Monsters, Inc. overlay for the 2026 season—the result of roughly two years of collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering, Pixar, and the resort’s enhancement team.

The décor riffs on the film’s iconic door-vault opening sequence: monsters weave in and out of colorful doors and windows across the entrances, with the porte-cochère columns, lobby walls, and even the elevator windows wrapped in themed doors. It’s on display as part of Halloween Time at Disneyland Resort, which runs August 21 through October 31, 2026.

We’ve come to appreciate that Disney’s hotel-lobby overlays are one of the most underrated (and free) ways to soak up seasonal atmosphere without a park ticket, and a two-years-in-the-making Monsters, Inc. installation is exactly the kind of detail that rewards guests who wander through the resort hotels.
