American Cruise Lines Just Announced Its Biggest Expansion Ever—With Three New Ships and 11 New Routes for 2026

American Cruise Lines is going all-in on domestic cruising. The company just unveiled its most ambitious expansion yet, adding three brand-new ships and 11 new itineraries for 2026—including the first-ever cruise on the Arkansas River and new voyages that combine river cruising with National Park exploration.

According to Travel And Tour World, the expansion will give travelers access to nearly 200 U.S. ports across America’s most scenic waterways. If you’ve ever wanted to explore the country without a passport or flight delays, this just became a lot easier.

The Three New Ships Coming in 2026

American Encore debuts in May 2026 as a 180-guest modern riverboat designed specifically for the Columbia and Snake Rivers. Every stateroom features a private balcony, and solo travelers get a major perk: no-supplement single cabins.

American Maverick and American Ranger join the company’s Patriot Class of small coastal ships. Each vessel carries just 130 guests and will serve East Coast itineraries with enhanced lounge spaces, expanded observation areas, and modern coastal amenities.

New Routes That Stand Out

The most intriguing additions combine river cruising with land-based exploration of America’s National Parks:

– A 15-day Pacific Northwest cruise that includes guided visits to Mount Rainier, Olympic, and North Cascades National Parks, plus navigation through Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands

– An 11-day Tennessee River cruise through Appalachia with access to Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Pigeon Forge, and Gatlinburg

The company is also launching its first-ever 9-day Arkansas River sailing between Memphis and Tulsa, plus a new Gulf Coast itinerary connecting New Orleans with Pensacola.

For Great Lakes enthusiasts, American Cruise Lines is introducing its first all-domestic voyages—including sailings on Lake Michigan and 14-day expeditions across Lakes Erie, Huron, and Michigan.

Why This Matters for Travelers

American Cruise Lines has carved out a unique niche: small-ship cruising exclusively in the United States. No passports, no currency exchanges, no international travel hassles. Just intimate vessels exploring rivers, coastlines, and waterways that larger cruise ships can’t reach.

The National Parks integration is particularly smart. These itineraries offer the best of both worlds—the convenience of unpacking once while your hotel floats to your next destination, combined with deep exploration of some of America’s most spectacular landscapes.

With 180 guests maximum on their largest new ship, you’re getting an experience that feels more like a private yacht expedition than a traditional cruise. That’s exactly what travelers are increasingly looking for.
