Carnival Cruise Line just reached a milestone that even they probably didn’t expect this quickly. On December 18, 2025, the cruise line welcomed its one-millionth guest to Celebration Key—the private island destination that only opened in July. That’s right, one million guests in just five months.
The lucky family? Andrew Sexton, his wife Savannah, their three daughters, and extended family from Knoxville, Tennessee, who were on their very first cruise. According to Carnival’s official announcement, they were greeted by a full Junkanoo band celebration the moment they stepped ashore from Carnival Vista—the same ship that made Celebration Key’s inaugural call back in July.
What Makes This Milestone So Significant
For context, Celebration Key is Carnival’s newest private destination in Grand Bahama, and reaching one million guests this quickly signals something important: people are actually excited about this place.
Carnival gave the Sexton family the VIP treatment—private cabana, unlimited food and drinks for the day, and all-access passes to the waterslides. It’s the kind of surprise that turns a first cruise into a story they’ll be telling for years.
But beyond the feel-good moment, the numbers tell a bigger story about what Celebration Key has become in such a short time.
By the Numbers
Since opening on July 19, 2025, Carnival reports they’ve served more than 500,000 complimentary Island Eats meals and 600,000 beverages. Nearly 50,000 guests have hit the Suncastle waterslides, and over 16,000 people have booked premium accommodations like private cabanas and super villas.
The destination currently welcomes 20 different Carnival ships sailing from ten U.S. homeports, offering 40 different types of shore excursions—including parasailing adventures that have taken more than 3,600 guests above the island for aerial views.
What This Means for Future Growth
Carnival isn’t slowing down. The cruise line has said it expects to welcome two million guests in 2026 and four million by 2028, especially after a pier expansion opens in summer 2026.
Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, highlighted the destination’s impact: “Both local residents who have benefited from the job creation and our guests have embraced Celebration Key from the very first day, and this milestone underscores an exciting chapter for us in The Bahamas.”
The Local Impact
Beyond the guest experience, Celebration Key has created more than 1,000 permanent local jobs and partnered with 58 Bahamian-owned companies operating on-site. During construction, Carnival hired 29 Bahamian construction companies, with 96% of landside employees being Bahamian.
For cruisers, this milestone is less about statistics and more about what it signals: Carnival has created a destination that guests actually want to visit. Five months in, and the momentum shows no signs of slowing.
