Disney Just Announced When Cinderella Castle Gets Its Makeover—And the Cranes Will Disappear Every Day at Noon

Disney World has officially confirmed that Cinderella Castle’s highly anticipated repainting project begins this month, and the company just revealed some fascinating details about how they plan to pull off this massive makeover without ruining your vacation photos.

According to Disney Tourist Blog, the iconic Magic Kingdom centerpiece will shed its pink and rose gold 50th Anniversary colors and return to a more classic look featuring grays, creams, and cerulean blue—the color scheme that made the castle famous for decades before the 2021 celebration changed everything.

How Disney Plans to Minimize the Construction Eyesore

Here’s where it gets interesting. Disney knows that Cinderella Castle is THE photo op for millions of guests, so they have built an unusual workaround into the construction plan.

Cranes will be brought in to reach the upper sections of the castle for painting work, but Disney has committed to lowering or completely removing these cranes from view by noon each day. This means morning guests might see construction equipment, but afternoon visitors will get relatively unobstructed views for their castle photos.

Disney is encouraging guests to enjoy other Magic Kingdom attractions in the morning, then return to Main Street U.S.A. in the afternoon to capture their iconic castle shots.

The Moat Is Getting Drained First

Before any painting begins, crews will drain the moat surrounding Cinderella Castle. This allows workers to safely access the lower portions of the structure and properly prepare surfaces for the new paint job.

The drained moat will likely create some unusual photo opportunities—Cinderella Castle without water is not something most guests have ever seen.

Your Favorite Shows Will Continue (With Minor Tweaks)

Good news for entertainment fans: Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire and the Happily Ever After fireworks spectacular will both continue during the repaint, with only minor adjustments as needed.

However, starting January 28, the Let the Magic Begin welcome show will run in a modified format throughout the project timeline.

Why the Color Change Matters

The current pink and rose gold color scheme was introduced in 2021 to celebrate Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary—a celebration that officially ended in 2023. The return to the classic gray, cream, and blue palette represents a homecoming of sorts for the castle, restoring the look that defined Magic Kingdom for most of its history.

Imagineers revealed the new color scheme at Disney’s D23 conference last summer, and fans have been eagerly waiting for the transformation to begin.

The repainting project is expected to wrap up later in 2026, meaning guests visiting in the second half of the year should see the completed castle in all its classic glory.

For now, if you have a Magic Kingdom trip planned for early 2026, just remember: visit in the afternoon for the best castle photos, and embrace the fact that you are witnessing a piece of Disney history in transition.
