Disney Just Confirmed Cinderella Castle Is Getting a Major Makeover—And the Classic Colors Are Finally Coming Back

If you have been missing the original Cinderella Castle colors, your patience is about to pay off. Disney has officially confirmed that Magic Kingdom iconic centerpiece will undergo a complete repaint starting in January 2026, and the castle is finally returning to its classic color scheme.

According to FOX 35 Orlando, the repainting project will restore Cinderella Castle to its traditional palette of gray, cream, blue, and subtle gold accents—replacing the brighter pinks and rose gold tones that were introduced in 2020 for Walt Disney World 50th Anniversary celebration.

The Timeline You Need to Know

Work on Cinderella Castle will begin in early January 2026, with completion expected sometime later in the year. The project will start with draining the moat surrounding the castle, followed by the full painting process using high-reach cranes and lifts.

Here is the good news for photographers: Disney has confirmed that construction equipment will be lowered and concealed by noon each day. That means if you are visiting during the repainting, you will want to hit the rides in the morning and save your castle photos for the afternoon and evening when the equipment is out of sight.

Shows Will Be Affected

Beginning January 28, 2026, guests should expect temporary modifications to three popular shows:

  • Let The Magic Begin (the welcome show)
  • Mickey Magical Friendship Faire
  • Disney Happily Ever After (fireworks)

Disney described these as minor adjustments, but did not provide specific details about what will change.

Why This Matters

The castle current look has been controversial among Disney fans since the 50th Anniversary makeover. While some loved the pink and rose gold touches, many longtime visitors felt the vibrant colors strayed too far from the castle classic appearance that defined Magic Kingdom for decades.

The original Cinderella Castle design drew inspiration from European castles and featured a more muted, elegant color scheme. The upcoming repaint will restore that familiar and nostalgic feel to Main Street U.S.A. views.

Planning Your Visit

If you are heading to Magic Kingdom between January and late 2026, here is what Disney recommends:

  1. Schedule rides for the morning when construction equipment may be visible
  2. Plan castle photos for afternoons and evenings after equipment is lowered
  3. Check the Disney app for any day-of entertainment changes

The work is being done carefully to minimize guest impact, but the castle will look different during the transition period. On the plus side, you will be able to watch the transformation happen in real time—and you might even catch glimpses of both the old and new color schemes during the process.

Once complete, Cinderella Castle will look more like it did when Magic Kingdom first opened in 1971. For fans who have been waiting years for the pink to go away, that is worth celebrating.
