Disney World Just Extended Park Hours for Spring Break—And the Extra Time Is Worth Planning Around

Spring break is coming fast, and Disney World just made it a little sweeter. As of March 6, Walt Disney World quietly updated its operating hours for the week of March 22-28, 2026, adding meaningful extra time across three of its four theme parks. If you have a trip booked during that window, this is worth paying attention to — because some of those hour extensions are significant enough to change how you plan your days.

According to WDW Magic, which first reported the update, Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios all received hour extensions for the spring break window. EPCOT’s schedule remains unchanged.

Here’s Exactly What Changed

The biggest gains are at Magic Kingdom, which is picking up an extra 90 minutes most evenings:

  • March 22-26: 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. (previously 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.)
  • March 27-28: 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. (previously 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.)

That 11 p.m. close gives you more time to catch the nighttime spectaculars without the frantic end-of-night rush, which is a genuine quality-of-life improvement when you have kids in tow.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom sees the largest proportional gain of the week:

  • March 22 and 28: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (previously 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.) — a full two-hour extension
  • March 23-27: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. (previously 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.) — one extra hour

Animal Kingdom closing at 6 p.m. has long been a frustration for guests, especially those who want to experience Pandora after dark when the bioluminescent lighting is at its most striking. Those extra evening hours change the game for Avatar Flight of Passage and the Na’Vi River Journey in a way that afternoon arrivals simply can’t replicate.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios gets a more modest bump:

  • March 22-27: 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. (previously 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.)
  • March 28: 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. (previously 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.)

Only 30 minutes, but at a park where Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land tend to hit their stride in the evening hours, that extra half hour at the end of the night can make a real difference if you’re chasing a shorter wait for Rise of the Resistance.

Why Disney Does This — And What It Signals

Disney extends hours during peak crowd weeks not out of generosity but out of necessity. When spring break hits and schools across the country dismiss for the week, park capacity fills fast. Extended hours spread guests across a longer operating window, which reduces peak-hour congestion and makes for a more manageable experience overall.

Miami-Dade County schools, one of the largest school districts in the country, have their spring break window from March 23-27. That week consistently ranks among the busiest of the entire year at Walt Disney World, and the updated hours reflect exactly that expectation.

For guests, the important thing to understand is that extended hours don’t mean emptier parks. They mean the same number of people stretched across more hours. Morning arrival is still your best tool for avoiding lines at the top rides.

How to Make the Most of the Extra Time

If you’re visiting that week, here’s how I’d use those extended hours strategically:

At Magic Kingdom, that 11 p.m. close is your cue to enjoy Happily Ever After or whatever nighttime show is running without fighting toward the exit the moment it ends. Plan your must-do rides for the first two hours of the day and use the evenings for the atmosphere and entertainment.

At Animal Kingdom, those extra evening hours are legitimately exciting. Head to Pandora after 6 p.m. if you can and experience what the land was designed to look like when the bioluminescence kicks in. It is visually unlike anything else in the park system.

At Hollywood Studios, the 30-minute extension is modest, but if you’re using Lightning Lane and still have a reservation or two to burn, that extra window lets you squeeze in one more ride rather than heading out at 9 and wondering if you could have done more.

One Thing to Watch

These hours were updated on March 6. Disney has a habit of adjusting hours again closer to the actual dates as they get a clearer picture of demand. Check the My Disney Experience app regularly between now and your trip, and don’t assume the hours you see today are final. They could extend further — or occasionally contract if demand shifts.

I’ll be keeping an eye on any additional updates as the week approaches. In the meantime, if spring break is on your calendar, this is genuinely good news. More park time, especially those Animal Kingdom evening hours, makes a meaningful difference in what you can accomplish in a single day.
