The Epic Universe Preview Center Is Gone — Here's What's Taking Its Place

Universal is permanently closing the Epic Universe Preview Center at CityWalk on April 13, 2026, and replacing it with a new Universal Legacy Store celebrating classic films and monsters.

The Epic Universe Preview Center Is Gone — Here's What's Taking Its Place

After years of building anticipation and months of welcoming curious guests, the Epic Universe Preview Center at Universal CityWalk Orlando is closing for good on April 13, 2026. And what’s coming next has us equal parts nostalgic and excited.

According to Disney Fanatic, Universal has confirmed the permanent closure of the Preview Center, which served as a dedicated showcase space during the lead-up to Epic Universe’s opening. In its place, Universal will open the Universal Legacy Store later in April — a retail and photo opportunity experience celebrating the classic properties that built the Universal brand: E.T., Jaws, Back to the Future, and Universal Monsters.

What the Preview Center Was

If you visited CityWalk in the months before Epic Universe opened, you likely passed through this space. It housed detailed scale models of the park, concept art panels walking guests through each themed land, and interactive displays that gave fans an early look at what was coming. It also served as an early merchandise hub for Epic Universe gear.

For theme park fans, it was a destination in itself — a rare chance to geek out over park design before ever setting foot inside the actual attractions.

Why the Closure Makes Sense

Now that Epic Universe is open and fully operational, the Preview Center has simply run its course. The scale models and concept art that once drummed up anticipation have been replaced by the real thing — SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, and Dark Universe are all welcoming guests. There’s nothing left to preview.

This kind of evolution is standard operating procedure at Universal. CityWalk has a long history of rotating concepts in and out — the old NASCAR Cafe and NBA City footprints both made way for newer ideas. The Preview Center always had an expiration date; we just didn’t know exactly when.

What’s Coming Next

The Universal Legacy Store is an interesting pivot. Rather than continuing to promote the new, Universal is leaning into its past — and honestly, that tracks with where the brand seems to be headed creatively. Classic monsters, practical effects horror, and 1980s nostalgia have all had a cultural moment, and Universal’s library of iconic films sits right at the center of that.

Photo opportunities tied to E.T., Jaws, and Back to the Future will give guests something to do in CityWalk beyond dining and shopping, and retro merchandise has proven to have genuine staying power with fans who grew up with these films.

A Small Chapter Closing

There’s something a little bittersweet about losing the Preview Center. For years, it was the first tangible hint that Epic Universe was really happening — a place where plans on a page started to feel like something real. Now the park is open, the rides are running, and that chapter is officially closed.

But if the Legacy Store delivers on its premise, CityWalk will gain something genuinely worth stopping for. Classic Universal has a lot of charm, and we’re curious to see what form that takes when the doors open later this month.
