Mythos Restaurant Is Closing — and Universal's Plan for What Comes Next Changes Everything

Universal has confirmed Mythos Restaurant will permanently close in 2027 as Lost Continent makes way for a new themed land at Islands of Adventure.

Mythos Restaurant Is Closing — and Universal's Plan for What Comes Next Changes Everything

If you’ve ever had dinner at Mythos Restaurant inside Universal’s Islands of Adventure, you already know it’s not your typical theme park meal. Perched inside a dramatic cave carved into a rocky cliffside, with waterfalls cascading around you and views out over the lagoon, it earned a reputation as one of the best restaurants on any theme park property in the world. That’s what makes this announcement sting a little.

According to a report from FOX 35 Orlando, Universal Orlando has confirmed that Mythos Restaurant will permanently close in 2027 as part of a sweeping transformation of the Lost Continent area at Islands of Adventure. The land itself is already in the early stages of being dismantled, with construction walls up and demolition work reportedly underway near the former Sindbad theater.

The End of an Era for Lost Continent

Lost Continent has been quietly fading for years. Poseidon’s Fury closed back in 2023. The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad stunt show shut down in 2018 after nearly two decades. Mythos Restaurant has been the last real anchor keeping the land alive — and now it’s getting a confirmed end date.

Universal hasn’t announced what the new themed land will be. That mystery is both frustrating and intriguing. The resort did release a statement noting it is “continuing its unprecedented momentum as it prepares for a slate of compelling new guest offerings across the destination,” which tells us exactly nothing specific — but does signal that whatever replaces Lost Continent is meant to be a serious addition, not a placeholder.

More Changes Hitting Jurassic Park Too

The Lost Continent news isn’t the only shakeup coming to Islands of Adventure. Thunder Falls Terrace, the counter-service restaurant in the Jurassic Park section, will close this summer and be converted into a new full-service signature dining experience expected to open next year. That’s actually good news for guests who’ve wanted more sit-down options in that corner of the park.

Jurassic Park River Adventure has also been closed since early 2026 and is not scheduled to reopen until late November 2026 — something worth factoring into your trip planning if that ride is on your must-do list.

What This Means for Your Trip

If Mythos is on your bucket list, you still have time. The closure isn’t happening until 2027, which means you have most of this year and potentially early next year to get there. We’d encourage you not to wait and assume it’ll always be available — we’ve seen too many beloved theme park experiences disappear before people got around to visiting.

On the bigger picture: Universal has been on an extraordinary run. Epic Universe opened just this year, and now the resort is already reworking Islands of Adventure for whatever comes next. The pace of change at Universal Orlando right now is genuinely remarkable, and while losing Mythos is a real loss, the fact that something new is coming to that space suggests Universal isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

We’ll be watching for the announcement of what replaces Lost Continent. Given the company’s recent track record, expectations are going to be high.
