Norwegian Cruise Line Just Revealed Its BIGGEST Ship Ever—And It’s Homeporting in Miami With 5 Waterslides

If you thought Norwegian Cruise Line couldn’t get any bigger, think again. The cruise line just unveiled Norwegian Aura, its largest ship ever built, and it’s setting up shop in Miami starting June 2027 with features that will make families and thrill-seekers lose their minds.

According to Norwegian Cruise Line’s official announcement, the Norwegian Aura stretches nearly 1,130 feet long, weighs in at 168,000 gross tons, and accommodates 3,840 guests at double occupancy. That makes it 10% larger than Norwegian Aqua and Norwegian Luna—the previous largest ships in the fleet.

But here’s what really sets this ship apart.

Ocean Heights Is a Four-Deck Playground in the Sky

The centerpiece of Norwegian Aura is Ocean Heights, a massive multi-generational activity hub spanning Decks 18 through 21. And when we say massive, we mean it.

This thing has five waterslides—the most of any ship in the Norwegian fleet. We’re talking Eclipse Racers, Aura Free Fall, The Wave, The Drop, Party Slide, and Infinity Loop. If you’re not getting your adrenaline fix here, you’re not trying.

But wait, there’s more. Ocean Heights also features an 82-foot ropes course, a 25-foot rock climbing wall, nine-hole mini golf, overhanging private cabanas, and Aura Midway with carnival games. It’s basically a floating theme park that transforms from a family hub during the day to a more relaxed social setting at night.

More Space, More Luxury, More Everything

Norwegian Aura doesn’t just win on activities. The ship’s pool deck is 20% larger than previous Prima Class ships, and Ocean Boulevard—the signature promenade that wraps around the ship—is 11% bigger than its predecessors.

For adults looking to escape the family fun, Vibe Beach Club offers an adults-only retreat that’s 15% larger than on previous ships, with expanded loungers and a more spacious layout.

And if you’re going all-in on luxury, The Haven by Norwegian has been expanded with 30% more suites than previous Prima Class vessels. Designed by Piero Lissoni, The Haven includes private elevator access, a dedicated restaurant, bar, lounge, and 24-hour butler and concierge service. The 159 suites in The Haven are basically a ship within a ship.

Miami to the Caribbean—And Beyond

Norwegian Aura will make its debut on May 21, 2027, with a seven-day Mediterranean voyage from Trieste, Italy, to Barcelona, Spain. But the real action starts in June 2027 when the ship begins sailing seven-day Caribbean itineraries from Miami.

From June through October 2027, Norwegian Aura will sail Eastern Caribbean routes hitting Puerto Plata, St. Thomas, Tortola, and Norwegian’s private island, Great Stirrup Cay. Then, starting in winter 2027/28, the ship switches to Western Caribbean itineraries with stops in Roatan, Costa Maya, Cozumel, and Harvest Caye.

And Great Stirrup Cay is getting a major upgrade too. Norwegian is adding Great Life Lagoon with swim-up bars and a kids’ splash area, plus Vibe Shore Club for adults-only relaxation. Great Tides Waterpark—launching in 2026—will feature 19 waterslides, cliffside jumps, and a river. So you’ll basically have two water parks: one on the ship and one on the island.

Why This Matters for Your Next Cruise

Norwegian Aura represents a clear shift in how cruise lines are thinking about ship design. This isn’t just about adding more cabins—it’s about creating more space for activities, more luxury options, and more flexibility for how families and groups want to experience a cruise.

The focus on Ocean Heights shows Norwegian is doubling down on multi-generational travel. Grandparents, parents, and kids can all find something to do without feeling like they’re stuck doing the same activities. And with Miami as the homeport, accessibility for U.S. travelers just got a lot easier.

Bookings are open now, and if history is any indication, the best cabins will go fast. You can book by calling 888-NCL-CRUISE or visiting ncl.com.

Norwegian Aura sets sail in May 2027, but the real question is: will you be on it?
